3. What's the Paneranormal Society?
The Paneranormal Society is a group of writers in the northern Virginia area who were brought together by the common bond of having one or more stories published in the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds anthology. Most of the members had a story published in Strange New Worlds VII and subsequently met up at the annual Shore Leave convention in Baltimore, MD. There, the members discovered that they all lived within 50 miles of each other and decided to start a writing group. Since 2004, the PS members have met at a local Panera restaurant twice a month to discuss the writing life and to review and critique each other's work.
The name "Paneranormal" was coined by Jim and was his effort at being clever, combining the name of the restaurant with the group's tendency toward science fiction and fantasy writing, essentially a play on the word "paranormal." It remains to be seen if Jim was too clever for his own good.
