News

Jim will be writing a new Storytelling Adventure System (SAS) product for White Wolf. More information forthcoming. For more information on the SAS product line, click here.

Jim was at Capclave 2008, the Washington, D.C. area literary science fiction convention, from October 17 through October 19, sitting in on panels and meeting fellow genre writers. Looking forward to Capclave 2009! Hope to see you there.

Along with writers Monica Valentinelli and Matt M. McElroy, Jim recently contributed a novella titled "Lifting the Gingham Veil" to the Tales of the Seven Dogs Society anthology by Abstract Nova, based off the Aletheia setting. If you like strange and unusual paranormal goings-on and The X-Files, you'll like this anthology and pen-and-paper RPG.

The anthology debuted at GenCon Indy in August of 2008, and will (hopefully) be available from Indie Press Revolution and Key20 in Fall 2008. Click the thumbnail to view a larger version of the cover art for the anthology and click here to read a preview from the story.

Jim's latest short story, "Clyde Cross'd Romance," is available as part of the Cup of Comfort for Horse Lovers anthology!

Jim was at Shore Leave 30 from July 11 to 13, 2008 signing books, pimping future releases, and having a good time with fellow writers and fans. Hope you were there! See you next year for Shore Leave 31!

In the meantime, he's working on original fiction (short stories and novels) and pitches and proposals for more fiction work and more RPG-related work.

The Writing Process

Jim writes almost all of his first drafts on an Alphasmart Neo, which is quite possibly the handiest writer's tool in the universe. Once an unedited first draft is complete, he dumps the text onto his desktop computer and works the remaining magic in good old Microsoft Word.

Other Writing

  • Jim has written material for Decipher, Inc.'s Star Trek RPG and The Lord of the Rings RPG; and for FanPro/Catalyst Games Labs' Shadowrun RPG. Owing to a wide variety of factors in the ever-capricious RPG industry, most of that material remains unpublished.

  • In 1995, Jim wrote three issues of a black-and-white comic book titled The Acolyte Chronicles, which were published by Azure Press, a small print comic company created by Tom Chillemi, Jim, and others. Copies of the comic might possibly still be found in the bargain bins of your local comic book store. If you happen to find one, enjoy (he says, cringingly).

The covers for the three issues are displayed below. Click the thumbnail to view a larger version.
